“Education for all” is the concept which at the beginning of this century marks the start of a new approach in child education with special educational needs. According to this new principle it is not enough to simply support the child's response to school demands, but it is also necessary to bring changes in schools, in the whole educational process, in student-teacher and student-student connections, in the curriculum and, finally, to offer education to each and every one if possible.
Each child’s individuality must be viewed as a positive characteristic that can be used to enrich classroom relations, by fostering inter-learning.
If a child sits in a classroom ready to learn, it doesn’t mean that he leaves his personal problems or anxieties at home; if the teacher wants to be effective, then he must look for ways to respond to all these problems. The whole set of common difficulties (not paying attention, the tendency to be distracted, inadequate answers, troublesome behavior etc.) originate here, proving that learning efficiency is based on more than just adequately organizing the information that is to be taught.
The needs of children with deficiencies are not primarily of an informational (i.e. depending on “school knowledge”) nature or the need to have a qualification, their fundamental need is to be helped and taught how to find themselves in the context of their own relationships and the tangled meaning of their existence. This can be achieved by a communication process of great depth and proportions.
